The Many Faces of Doc Holliday
This is a comprehensive portfolio of every actor from published works that have played, portrayed, or stood in as Doctor John Henry "Doc" Holliday. I will make sure this list is as up to date as possible going from oldest to newest. I will be updating what I have to say about each actor as well based on watching the media-As I put this together not everything is fresh.
Harvey Clark
Law for Tombstone (1937)
I never supposed that I would ever say this but this movie is one that I would never recommend anyone to watch. especially if you are watching for Doc Holliday. The character they assigned to Doc was different from any visual we have ever seen of Doc today. He might as well but Sam or Fred for that matter and the movie would have been the same. Sorry for my bitterness.
Cesar Romero
Frontier Marshal (1939)
This movie is currently available free on YouTube if anyone wants to watch it right now. This movie is also based off the Book by the same name by Stuart N. Lake
Kent Taylor
Tombstone, The Town Too Tough to Die (1942)
This movie was a good watch for an old movie, they got a lot of things right and a lot of things wrong.
Walter Huston
The Outlaw (1943) ⭐
This movie was not going for accuracy it was merely going for a good storyline. One that I myself did not enjoy. The color version is free to watch on Roku
Victor Mature
My Darling Clementine (1946) ⭐
This movie very closely resembles Frontier Marshal (1939). It is a good watch honestly.
Myron Healey
The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp (1950's-60's) ⭐
One of my absolutely favorites, this man did a fabulous job in the little time he had playing Doc Holliday. As he was a stand in for the main actor of the series. He still left an impression on me. Free to watch on Roku and YouTube
Douglas Fowley
The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp (1950's-60's) ⭐
While Hugh O'Brien was the star of this series, Douglas Fowley really shined when he was around. Again, by far one of my absolute favorites of the bunch. Free to watch on Roku and YouTube
Harry Bartell
Gunsmoke Radio Show: Doc Holliday (1952)
While back in the 1930s and 40's they had television, radio shows was still popular and this 1950's radio show turned tv serial did do our subject here. I may get an image of just the actor for this one.
Kim Spalding
Stories of the Century: Doc Holliday (1954)
This was not at all true, while there was a deal between Wyatt and Ike Clanton about the stage coach robberies and Kate Elder signing an affidavit stating Doc Holliday robbed the stage coach while drunk she later recanted her statement. Doc Holliday never robbed any stages, trains or banks.
James Griffith
Masterson in Kansas (1954)
This one wasn't my favorites to watch because I am biased against Bat Masterson. I will however, give it another watch with the knowledge I will be writing about it.
James Griffith
Buffalo Bill Jr.: First Posse (1955)
I will really need to watch this one to give an opinion.
Barry Atwater
You Are There: The Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1955)
If anyone has any information about this I would love to hear it. I have never been able to find this at all other than on IMDB. I am not even sure which one is Doc Holliday in this image, so I have them all posted.
Kirk Douglas
Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957) ⭐
This movie used to be one of my favorites long time ago. I say used to be because I have since grown and changed my sights and views on Doc and I honestly don't think he was the only instigator in his relationship with Kate. I feel more like she was the abuser than him.
Gerald Mohr
Maverick: The Quick and the Dead (1957)
I have learned through this research that Maverick is a highly underrated televisions serial. Not necessarily this one, but Maverick is highly intriguing.
Dewey Martin
Zane Grey Theatre: Man of Fear (1958) ⭐
I have now seen this episode, it makes Doc seem very heoric and healthy. Two things I am positive he was not. But it was an fun watch anyways.
Gerald Mohr
Tombstone Territory (1958)
This one is interesting not sure if I'd call it entirely accurate to his character though. Tombstone Territory is free to watch on Roku
Adam West
Colt .45: The Devil's Godson (1959)
This one makes me insanely mad that I can't find it anywhere. The name makes it incredibly hard to search-If anyone has any information please don't hesitate to reach out.
Martin Landau
Tales of Wells Fargo: Doc Holliday (1959)
I will have to rewatch this to have something to say.
Robert Lansing
The Tall Man: Rovin' Gambler (1961)
I will have to rewatch this to have something to say.
Peter Breck
Maverick (1961-62)
Peter Breck is one of my absolute favorite Doc Holliday's. Not necessarily accurate to the man himself, but he was a great portrayal of what could have been if Doc himself wasn't so sick.
Christopher Dark
Bonanza: Calamity Over the Comstock (1963)
I mean for a cameo appearance in a show he has no business being in it was a good portrayal.
Skip Homeier
Death Valley Days: The Quiet and the Fury (1964)
Death Valley Days is a TV serial I have never watched only the episodes that Doc is in, and I have to admit they were pretty good. But again not very accurate. Death Valley Days is free to watch on Roku
Arthur Kennedy
Cheyenne Autumn (1964) ⭐
Sometimes I swear they just have him cameo because they were in town in the time period and most people have heard his name, that's all that happened here really.
Henry Silva
Wagon Train: The Silver Lady (1965)
Not much to say here really.
Anthony Jacobs
Doctor Who (1966)
Again the same thing here really as I am gonna say about Star Trek... They had an excuse to get here so they did. They were mistaken for Doc and that is the story line.
Warren Stevens
Death Valley Days: Doc Holliday's Gold Bars (1966)
One of my favorite preformances, Warren Stevens is comedic and fun to watch. Although I don't think Doc would have ever pulled a stunt like this it was still a good watch. If someone has a good image of him please don't hestitate to drop me an email (as Doc of course) Death Valley Days is free to watch on Roku
Don Beddoe
Pistols 'n' Petticoats: Shoot-Out a O'Day Corral (1966)
I really didn't care for this rendition at all.
Jason Robards
Hour of the Gun (1967) ⭐
While he was not a very close portrayal to Doc's character he was still witty and funny to watch. This movie is a pretty good portrayal overall I still like it all these years later. Would definitely recommend. Hour of the Gun is free to watch on Roku
Jack Kelly
The High Chaparral: The Doctor From Dodge (1967)
I can't find this one anywhere either.
Sam Gilman
Star Trek: Spectre of the Gun (1968)
I don't really approve of this storyline, The kind of we traveled here and got mixed up in your mess type.
Stacy Keach
Doc (1971) ⭐
One of my absolute favorites. I loved this one through and through. I really did love the relationship between Doc and Wyatt in this one. Everything was very good. It is kind of sad though. This one is available free on Roku
Bill Fletcher
Alias Smith and Jones: S3 e7 (1972)
I need to watch this one.
Tim Janes
Appointment with Destiny: Showdown at O.K. Corral (1972)
This one was very good and educational, I liked it.
Dennis Hopper
Wild Times (1980)
This one was very hard to see Doc (I didn't really watch it either) but skimming it was very hard to catch him.
John McLiam
Bret Maverick: The Lazy Ace (1981)
Ummm... Well I don't have much to say here.
Jeffery DeMunn
I Married Wyatt Earp (1983) ⭐
I really didn't care for this one, but I guess I can't blame it as it was based off of Josephine Marcus' account of what happened. And she made him lewd and not a gentleman at all. I found it disgusting to be honest.
Willie Nelson
Stagecoach (1986)
This was just a bunch of stars that wanted to act as these big names I swear that's all this movie was. It had no point and literally went no where. I felt cheated. I do not recommend.
Val Kilmer
Tombstone (1993) ⭐
One of the ABSOLUTE best portrayals of Doc Holliday on the market. This is why most people today will mimic and imitate the great Val Kilmer. He did an amazing job portraying his personality, sickness, friendships, etc. He was just amazing!
Dennis Quaid
Wyatt Earp (1994) ⭐
I was not a huge fan of this movie after watching Tombstone, I tried it again and while I do love that they take 3 hours to show Wyatt's life before I just can't get on board with Quaid as Doc. He is certainly not the best man for the job and I will never agree to it.
Drew Pillsbury
Timemaster (1995)
This one falls within that category that Star Trek and Doctor Who fall into. I am just not a Sci-fy type person and therefore I haven't fully commited and watched this movie yet and therefore cannot find Doc by just scrubbing through. I will however get that picture updated.
Randy Quaid
Purgatory (1999) ⭐
This movie is all sorts of weird. It falls within that fantasy Sci-fy genre again. But I did watch it once before and I don't remember much about it. It was okay if I recall.
Brenden Guy Murphy
Days That Shook the World: Rule of the Gun: The O.K. Corral (2005)

William Arute
Cowboys & Outlaws: The Real Wyatt Earp (2009)
I believe this is on Netflix right now?
Jamie Thomas King
The Legend of Hell's Gate: An American Conspiracy (2011)
This one was interesting but I don't think it was very accurate.
Wilson Bethel
Wyatt Earp's Revenge (2012) ⭐
Making a short appearance in this film to help gather information from a criminal there isn't much meat to this actor's protrayal at all.
Ryan Kennedy
Hannah's Law (2012) ⭐
This was an interesting movie but more of a fluff movie than anything going for historical accuracies. Still a good watch though.
William McNamara
Doc Holliday's Revenge (2014)
This was an interesting movie after the O.K. Corral and after Wyatt's brothers were attacked by the Clanton gang. This is about Doc pursuing Indian Charlie and meeting Stilwell's living kin. Doc Holliday's Revenge is free on Roku
Shane O'Loughlin
Legend & Lies (2015)
I don't remember much of this show, I did see it when it first came out but haven't been able to find it since.
Edgar Fox
The American West Mini Series (2016)
Currently in the middle of watching this series now, it is on Netflix currently.
Tim Rozen
Wynonna Earp (2016- Present)
I watched the beginning of this series but the idea of an immortal Doc Holliday is kind of weird to me. So I haven't been able to go back to it.
Eric Schumacher
Tombstone-Rashomon (2017) ⭐
I just watched this one and it was interesting the historical facts that they have and the way they have presented it. I am still questioning accuracies but I think overall they did a good job. Tombstone-Rashomon is available free on Roku
Tom Zembrod
Doc Holliday (2024)
This movie is available on YouTube to watch.
Dan Stafford
Death Valley Days: After the OK Corral (1964)
This episode was surprisingly accurate for the time period it was made in. I highly enjoyed this episode. They had Doc drinking Brandy instead of Whiskey but small mistake. Death Valley Days is available on Roku or free
Edward Franklin
Wyatt Earp and the Cowboy War (2024)
This is a nice nonfiction tv series that is available on Netflix right now. It is pretty accurate.
